At the DCLGA AGM junior girls were present to receive various awards.

Junior County Champion Caylin Million (Chester le Street GC) was unable to attend to collect her trophy. Caylin shot a first round of 78 and a second round of 77 giving a total of 155 a winning margin of two shots.

With so many contenders for Junior Golfer of the Year it was difficult to choose one player, so the Junior Committee decided to award the player of the year jointly to two players; Nixie Corcoran (Blackwell Grange GC) and Willow Hixon (Wearside GC)

After Nixie dropped 6 shots last year, she has consolidated her handicap this year at 6.3. She has a place on the England Golf Regional Programme in 2026 - 27. She competes in our county junior girls’ events and is part of our county girls coaching programme. In the junior girls' championships, she won second nett and third gross. She played both junior county girls matches with one win and one loss. She played in the DCLGA ladies' County Championships where she was ninth and was selected as a reserve for the county squad and she attended CMW supporting the team.

Willow has knocked 6.6 shots off her handicap this year. She competes in our county junior girls’ events and is part of our county girls coaching programme. She qualified for the Clement Trophy matchplay and was the overall winner. It was impressive that at aged 10 she completed 36 holes of matchplay in one day. She was third in the Appleby Bowl and won the Greensomes with her playing partner Evie Goodman (Castle Eden GC). She made he debut for the county girls' team in an away match against Yorkshire where she won her match. In the PING Junior Golf Tour, she gained fourth place in the under 12 girls order of merit. She played a series called wee wonders regional qualifiers, regional final then final over 2 days in Gullane where she qualified for world championships which are to be held over 3 days in Pinehurst North Carolina in July 2027.

Most Improved Player of the Year went to Neave Pearson (Billingham GC). Neave's handicap at the start of the season 35.2 and by the end 19.3 a reduction of 15.9 giving an improvement factor of 1.50. In addition, Neave has played in every one of the junior county girls' competitions as well as attending the rules event and our coaching programme at Wynyard.

Our current Junior Captain, Emily Holgate (Wearside GC) was unable to attend so the 2027 Junior Vice Captain, Sorcha Bond (Eaglescliffe GC) handed over the Junior Captain’s badge Scarlette Richardson (Seaton Carew GC). We wish Scarlette all the best in 2027 along with Sorcha her Vice Captain.

Lastly a big thank you to all the ladies who attended the AGM and gave so generously to the Junior County Girls collection tins with a massive £148.00 being raised.
