County Match Week is being held at Eaglescliffe this year from Sunday 7th June (practice round) until Wednesday 10th June. The team from Durham will be playing each of the other 5 Northern Division Counties over the 2.5 day event. It is with regret that we inform you that Viv Atkinson died yesterday, peacefully in hospital with her family by her side. Viv was a member at Whitburn Golf Club from the early 1970s. She played regularly on the teams, was Lady and Club Secretary at Whitburn and moved on to both DCLGA committee as well as the Past Captain's Society where she served as both Secretary and President. Unfortunately Brancepeth Castle Golf Club was closed today due to the overnight rain and therefore we have been unable to start the knockout phase of the Championship today as planned. They cannot accommodate all the tee times that we require to hold the first matchplay round tomorrow and therefore we are looking to re-schedule. It was a beautiful day at Brancepeth with plenty of sunshine and very little wind. The Greener Cup was won by Val Brown of Brancepeth, with an impressive 38 points. Sonya Stephenson of Chester-le-Street finished 2nd with 32 points. Janine Lutz, also representing Brancepeth, was awarded the Lillian Bennett Trophy for best gross. Many congratulations to the team of Linda Hicks, Barbara Hillier and Liz Musto from Ingleby Barwick who won the Spring Waltz at Sharpley. They played very well and had a great score of 81 points. 50 teams have now entered the Vine Trophy to be held at Durham City Golf Club on Monday 1st June. In order to fit everyone in, the tee times will need to run from 08:30 until 15:00. Therefore entries are now closed as it is likely that the final groups will not finish their rounds until after 7pm.

It is with great sadness that we let you know that we have been made aware that Pam Twinn (nee Dinning) has died. Pam joined Ryton as a junior with her mother, father and younger brother Guy; often accessing the then 9 hole course by crossing over the railway line rather than using the longer way round by road!
