Captain's Message 2017

I would like to thank you all for your support and friendship during my first year as Captain. I have thoroughly enjoyed my year and look forward to 2017, catching up with you all again at various competitions and matches. As I said last year we have County competitions to cater for all levels of play, so hopefully a few more of you will be encouraged to come along and join in.

The County squad had a really successful 2016 and hopefully that will continue into 2017. I wish them every good luck at County Match Week to be held this year at Morecambe Golf Club. I do hope to see some of you there, perhaps to caddy or just to cheer them on.

I do hope you all have a successful 2017, be it at club, county or national level.

You can be assured that myself, Rita our President, Anne our Vice Captain and the executive committee will do our best to continue to progress the interests of ladies golf in County Durham.

County Captain’s Charity 2017

My charity for 2017 is our local Hospice movement. I’m hoping by the end of this year to be able to donate cheques to various hospices across the whole of our area. I do feel the small local Hospices sometimes get forgotten due to the national charities excellent fundraising activities.

The Hospice is not only a peaceful sanctuary for end of life care, but helps in so many other ways:-

  • Round the clock respite care helping to maintain a quality of life while dealing with pain relief and symptom control.
  • Day care facilities for complementary therapy or just for a friendly cuppa. Sometimes all one needs is a friendly ear from someone who understands what is happening.
  • Support for the carers who maybe struggling to know how best to help and also for bereavement counselling.

The nominated Hospices which hopefully cover most of our area are Butterwick (Bishop Auckland and Stockton), St Teresa's, St Cuthbert's, St Benedict's, Willowburn and St Clare's. I hope to have your continued great support.
