Northern Counties Match Week 2025

Northern County Match week is taking place at Hessle Golf Club near Hull from Monday 16th to Wednesday 18th June.

We wish the squad every success in their matches.

Just about to go out for a practice round

Monday 16th June

Durham beat Cheshire 3-2 in the morning game. There were some very close finishes with 4 of the games going to the 17th or 18th. The team did well in very warm conditions, Faye Wheatley and Emily Baxter won their singles games with Brittany Hill and Scarlette Richardson winning their foursomes despite one of the Cheshire girls getting a hole in one. Apparently there are some technical problems with Golf Genius at the moment and the Durham scores are wrong.

It might be a bit harder this afternoon against Yorkshire!

In Fact Durham lost 4-1 to Yorkshire, but again 3 matches went to the 16th/17th. It was very hot as can be seen from the photographs

Tuesday 17th June

Durham lost to Lancashire 4-1 in the morning game, Kayla Hall won her first singles match in CMW 5&4 which was a great result. At least the weather was good and the supporters were out in force enjoying the sunshine. Here's to better luck in the afternoon games.

The three musketeers

A very close match against Northumberland this afternoon which ended up with Northumberland winning 3-2. Izzy Stokes played in her first CMW game with Brittany Hill which they lost 3&1. The other Durham pair (Emily Baxter and Millie Hixon) won their foursomes game with Faye Wheatley winning her singles match on the 18th.

Northumberland have won all their matches so far this year and may not be caught.

Wednesday 18th June

Durham's final match was against Cumbria.

Kayla and Scarlette won their first foursomes game 6&4, Brittany and Morgan won their foursomes 3&1, Emily won her singles 3&1, and Faye had an outstanding win in her singles 8&7 to give Durham a 4-1 victory overall.

Many congratulations to Northumberland who finished the week unbeaten and who go on to represent the Northern Division in the National Final.

Well done to all the team from Durham who finished in joint 3rd place with the same number of game and match points at Yorkshire. Emily Baxter and Faye Wheatley received their county colours. Overall the squad played really well with some outstanding golf played in very hot conditions. The experienced players supported the three new ones throughout the week. The supporters and caddies worked hard too. Well done to everyone involved who did Durham proud.
