The first Junior Girls Coaching Assessment Day was held on Sunday 20 October at Sharpley Golf Club and even storm Ashley could not deter the girls from attending.
21 girls braved the wind and rain to attend a one-hour session of their choice. During each session the girls were assessed on their putting, long and short game
The most important aspect of the assessment day was to provide a relaxed and welcoming environment to give the girls the freedom to relax and enjoy the day, without the feeling of being put under pressure to perform.
During the sessions the girls and their parents had the opportunity to pose questions to the coaches and the feedback received from the girls and their parents after the sessions was extremely positive.
The coaches now have the envious task of evaluating all the data from the day and offer the girls places on a coaching group appropriate to their playing ability to further develop their skills.
A massive thank you goes to the three coaches Kevin Jackson, Mark Rayson and Steve Carpenter for all their hard work in ensuring all the girls had a productive day. Also, thanks to Sharpley Golf Club for hosting the day and members of the D.C.L.G.A Junior committee for supporting the day.
The future of girls’ golf in Durham is looking very bright.
