It is with great sadness that we let you know that we have been made aware that Pam Twinn (nee Dinning) has died.
Pam joined Ryton as a junior with her mother, father and younger brother Guy; often accessing the then 9 hole course by crossing over the railway line rather than using the longer way round by road! Her first successes in club competitions came in 1956 (winning the Calcutta Cup and Jubilee Vase), during which year she also won the Durham County Greener Cup and Coronation Medal, and she continued to win club competitions throughout her time as a member at Ryton, up until the early 1970s.
Pam won the Durham County Championship in 1966 and again in 1968 (as Pam Twinn) (and was runner up in 1970 and 1971). In 1956 Pam and her brother Guy won the Ryton mixed foursomes, Barthorpe Cup, apparently completing their round in near darkness after playing elsewhere in the County earlier in the day.
She was Ryton ladies club champion in 1966, 1967, 1969, 1971 and 1972 and a member of the Ryton ladies committee in the 1960s, together with her mother who was the Club ladies treasurer.
Ryton ladies remember Pam by competing every year for the Pam Dinning Salver (the best nett score from the 36 hole ladies club championship).
She visited Ryton last year and spent time reminiscing about her time at the club; and was still playing golf regularly in 2025. Pam played in the county team for 17 years, she also attended the Centenary Lunch.
Pam is on the team photo for 1959 when Hope Burn was Captain, then right through to 1976. Her contemporaries are Audrey Mills, Lilian Bennet, Di Spence, Lesley Still, Cathy Bowerbank and Anne Biggs.
