After numerous discussions, should we, shouldn’t we, the delayed 2020 DCLGA AGM was successfully held “virtually” on Saturday 30th January with over 70 Zoom attendees. The meeting was facilitated by Captain, Chris Pascall and chaired by President, Di Elsy proving business can carry on, by grasping the technology available and engaging a positive attitude, thanks to everyone involved.
We Brits have a reputation with observations, predictions and general chit-chat on our weather, so how ironic that regardless of the national ban preventing any golf being played, the January snow, rain and freezing conditions would have closed our courses and in some cases, they could remain closed for some time to come. This must be a particularly difficult and challenging time for our greens staff who are continuing to battle the elements on our behalf trying to carry out their winter programmes in addition to remedial work caused by such harsh conditions.
However it seems many golfers are looking forward to the 2021 season as clubs are witnessing an encouraging number of bookings for their Open Competitions which in turn helps to drive much needed revenue. Although we can’t visit our clubs, we can give support by entering Opens with our golfing friends, get some dates into the diary and look forward with hope and anticipation to getting back out and playing.(might need to watch a few YouTube videos to remember what I need to do on the 1st tee so I don’t show myself up).
We need our clubs, and our clubs need us.
