This year the Vine Trophy was held in the week of what would have been Mary Vine's 100th birthday. Although she was a formidable character, she was nevertheless always very supportive of new players encouraging them to improve and to take part in events. She held a number of seniors posts around the County including being DCLGA Captain and President.
The weather started out rather gloomy in the morning, but the rain held off and the Durham City Course was in tip top condition (although some of the ladies said the greens were rather too fast for their taste).
The team of Val Brown, Barbara Parkin and Jessie Brown of Brancepeth Castle beat the rest of the field by a clear 4 points, with teams from Eaglescliffe, Whitburn and Durham City winning the prizes for second to fourth place.
